Tumblr, it’s been great. I had a lot of fun posting content and getting into the world of blogging and you proved to be an excellent site to get my feet wet. But now it’s time to make the transition to another site. Thanks for being a great host site for almost 3 years.

I like to gush sometimes about my bf to my mom but today, it was her going on and on about him during the car ride home. They met and considering the end result, it was v. successful.

I know this is a really personal post but it’s a big deal for me! Even Michael gave him a hug. So cute. :-)

What blogs/sites do I follow?

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while and it fits perfectly since blogging is all about collaborating, sharing and exposing new things. I don’t follow too many people or else, I would spend my whole time on my laptop keeping up with blogs but these are a few whom I’ve kept a special eye on. These are blogs outside of tumblr.

1. Indie Jane Photography

I forget how I stumbled across this blog but I immediately fell in love with the content that she was posting right away which is why she is my favourite person to follow. Her name is Amanda and she’s a professional photographer who lives with her four adorable dogs on a farm that her grandfather built. Her posts vary in content which is why I love following her. Not only does she share her beautiful photographs from the shoots that she does professionally, but she also does “what I wore”, how to’s, crafts, recipes from the food that she makes, posts inspirational quotes. The layout is clean and extremely aesthetically pleasing and she updates regularly. Her instagram is good, a little more personal but it’s not repetitive to her blog so you get a good complimentary feel to it.

If only I lived in the US near her, I wish I could book her and have her take photos/meet her.

2. Bleubird

This blog is where it all started and my sister was the one who showed me her. James (aka Bleubird) used to own her on vintage shop but she’s been blogging for a long time and since then, has grown a beautiful family and is now stays at home, homeschooling her kids and devoting her time to the blog. It really showcases her lifestyle - posting photos of her family, what type of crafts/lessons they did, what they wore or the food that she made (recipe included). It’s a lot more personal but since I’ve been following her for 3 years, I’ve enjoyed it a lot. In fact - SHE was the one who exposed me to the Mason Jar Pie idea. There hasn’t been much vintage/fashion to it lately but she just had a baby so right now, it’s all about raising the kids and documenting that. Still worth a follow.

3. Sachagud

It’s cool following someone that you semi-know and considering how busy she is with school, I am extremely impressed with this blog. She’s a very good friend of HS (who is one of my best friends) whom they are both finishing up their school year and are getting ready to start their PR internships.

What I really like about this blog is the variety and the layout. It’s crisp, easy on the eyes but it draws me in to different sections. She has her music, personal stuff, DIY for knitting (which is a new hobby that I love) - there’s just a lot to look at so again this is another blog that I really enjoy looking at from time to time.

4. Apartment Therapy

Is this a blog? Doesn’t matter, I think everyone who loves decorating ideas, tips and wants ideas on how to spice up their living space should look no further. WARNING: Once you start, it’s impossible to stop looking. Soon enough, you’ll get cravings to want to redecorate your entire living space. I know I can’t wait to get my own place and decorate…

I love trying out new things and finding out ways to get involved and my recent project has been kick-starting this radio-show called Geek-o-saurus Rex. I know I am leaving to work at the end of the month but I wanted to be involved with creating the show, finding its main purpose and kick-starting it. Basically what we do is we choose a topic (any topic, any theme) and we “geek out” about it bringing in either reports/facts, relating to pop culture, igniting debates and doing a historical breakdown of the topic. I’ll be recording and mapping out the first few episodes but our goal is to hopefully find another host to accompany HGW and continue it once school starts up again.

We had our first show today and it was perfect because we talked about Dinosaurs, so I really felt in my element to completely geek out and have fun. I’m obsessed with Dinosaurs and I love learning about them. They’ve fascinated me since I was a little girl - of course I wanted to be a paleontologist. I still kind of do… ah, in another life.

So yeah! Radio is a ton of fun, it’s really different and you have to be careful when speaking because you don’t want to fumble on your works or say something out of context while still trying to be entertaining. I used to read the announcements at my elementary school and loved it, and even though I’m leaving and I’ll be starting my job, I’m really glad that I got to do this and try something new. Why not? I was sweating and shaking the whole time I was ON AIR speaking but no one else knew that - just me! I still did it. When you have opportunities that fall into your path that test your curiosity, just go for it.

BTW I drew the Dinosaur.

Music (from) Movies Monday: Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve

Happy Monday! I think I’ve exhausted this blog with my rants and raves on exploitation films and Jackie Brown. It’s pretty much the only two subjects that I’ve done close studies on this semester and thus became obsessed.

So, instead I will post a song that not only do I love listening to as I really get into my essays/studying for dramatic effect but a song that is played in one of my favourite endings to a film: Cruel Intentions. I find this absolutely brilliant with how Bitter Sweet Symphony slowly fades in, causing a disruption to the audience while Kathryn is equally disrupted by the noise, but through the sounds of her peers. The song all builds up to that climax when she opens the door and *bam* busted! It’s so dramatic but I love it.

Here’s the clip just to refresh your memory.

Oh I also love throwing this bit in whenever I talk about this song. The Verve got into some shit with the Rolling Stones when they sampled this song from “The Last Time” by Adrew Oldham Orchestra.

I did it! So proud and happy with my year at The Cord. I loved being Life Editor and being part of such an amazing team. I met a fantastic network of people, got to coach/train/manage a group of great writers and collaborated with amazing staff.

Overall, I am so glad to go through this experience, I don’t think I was ever grumpy or annoyed to do my job at The Cord, it was always a place for me to just let my ideas soar. I met the most amazing group people there and I thank them for being my little family for the year. Smirlies, you got a great group of staff for next year - I can’t wait to see what you guys put together.

Anyways, here are some screenshots. We got my page, the Arts page that I worked on/designed and the GI Joe panel (hint: we hated the movie). I also wrote an opinion column (I had to, it all started in Opinion).

Yup, I did it.
